Job Description
Doctors Hospital of Augusta is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Registered Respiratory Therapist PRN to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this flexible, as-needed role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across a variety of settings, including emergency, critical care, and general medical-surgical units. As a Registered Respiratory Therapist at our state-of-the-art facility, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and deliver a full range of respiratory therapies. Your responsibilities will include administering oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and suctioning; setting up and managing mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation; and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases and other diagnostic tests to evaluate and optimize respiratory status. You will play an integral role in emergency response situations, supporting airway management and resuscitation efforts during rapid responses and codes. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will contribute to evidence-based, patient-centered care that aligns with our commitment to innovation and quality outcomes. In addition to direct patient care, you will be responsible for accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, adherence to infection control and safety protocols, and proper operation and maintenance of respiratory care equipment. You will also provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, therapies, and home-care considerations to support safe transitions of care. Doctors Hospital of Augusta is dedicated to providing top-tier medical care with advanced technology and a highly skilled clinical team. Our culture emphasizes teamwork, continuous professional growth, and a supportive environment where respiratory therapists are valued contributors to patient health and hospital performance. While our broader organization offers competitive benefits and opportunities for career advancement, this PRN role is ideal for an experienced therapist seeking schedule flexibility, exposure to diverse patient populations, and the chance to practice at the top of their license within a collaborative, innovative setting. Frequently asked questions
How does PRN therapy work?
PRN (per diem) therapists pick up shifts or visits as needed without a fixed weekly schedule. Some employers require a minimum number of shifts per month; home-health PRN is typically paid per visit.
Does PRN pay more than full-time?
Yes — PRN hourly and per-visit rates are typically 15–35% higher than full-time staff rates, since the role doesn't include benefits or guaranteed hours.
Are benefits included?
Most PRN therapy roles do not include health benefits or PTO; the higher rate offsets that. Some larger systems offer benefits at higher commitment tiers.
