Job Description

UF Health, a comprehensive academic health center in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Resp Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within the Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a Respiratory Therapist at UF Health, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care to a diverse population in an advanced, academic hospital environment. You will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement evidence-based care plans, and deliver therapeutic interventions to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. In this role, you will manage and monitor mechanical ventilation, administer oxygen and aerosolized medications, perform airway clearance techniques, and provide both invasive and non-invasive respiratory support in collaboration with physicians and the broader interdisciplinary care team. You will obtain and analyze arterial blood gases, perform pulmonary function and bedside diagnostic tests as appropriate, and adjust respiratory therapies based on clinical status, protocols, and established standards of care. You will respond to respiratory-related emergencies and rapid response calls, assisting with resuscitation efforts, airway management, and code situations. As part of UF Health’s commitment to innovation and excellence, you will contribute to clinical decision-making, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and help implement new technologies and best practices in respiratory care. You will document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care. You will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, home therapies, equipment use, and prevention strategies, supporting safe transitions of care and long-term disease management. Working at UF Health means practicing in a collaborative and inclusive environment that values diversity, professional growth, and continuous learning. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals across intensive care units, emergency departments, step-down units, and general care areas, depending on organizational needs and your skill set. You may precept students or new team members, share clinical expertise, and engage in ongoing education and training opportunities that support your development and advancement in the respiratory therapy profession. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining meticulous attention to patient safety and infection control practices. UF Health offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, retirement plan options such as a 401k, and access to professional development resources. By joining UF Health as a Resp Therapist, you will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking medical advancements while making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families every day. You will be part of a supportive team that encourages questions, innovation, and shared learning, allowing you to grow your career within one of Florida’s leading academic health systems.

  • What license do I need to apply?

An active state license in your discipline (PT, OT, SLP, LCSW, LPC, BCBA, etc.) in good standing. Therapy licensure is state-specific — the PT, OT, and ASLP-IC compacts let you practice in member states without a separate license.

  • Is this a school-year or year-round position?

School-based therapy roles typically follow a 9- or 10-month school-year calendar with summers off. Outpatient, hospital, home-health, and telehealth positions are year-round with PTO. Both options are widely available — check the job description for specifics.

  • What experience is expected?

Most therapy roles welcome new grads through mid-career clinicians. Specialty positions (acute care, NICU, pediatric feeding, hand therapy) typically prefer 2+ years plus relevant certifications.
