Job Description

Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Encompass Health, is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to provide evidence-based, patient-centered rehabilitation services in our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will evaluate patients with a wide range of neurological, orthopedic, and medically complex conditions, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver high-quality interventions focused on restoring function, maximizing independence, and improving quality of life. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team—including physicians, nurses, occupational and speech therapists, case managers, and other specialists—to coordinate care, set functional goals, and ensure optimal patient outcomes. Working in a dynamic, outcomes-driven environment, you will perform comprehensive assessments, document progress using EMR and standardized outcome measures, and educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, and lifestyle modifications. You will apply clinical reasoning and current best practices to select and progress therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, gait and balance training, and functional mobility interventions appropriate to each patient’s needs and goals. You will also participate in care conferences, contribute to discharge planning, and support safe transitions of care. Aligned with our culture of integrity, innovation, and compassion, you will engage in ongoing professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based practice updates. You will mentor or precept students or less experienced staff as needed, help refine clinical protocols, and actively contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented workplace. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, utilize advanced rehab technologies, and grow your clinical skills in a hospital-based rehabilitation setting where patient-focused care and teamwork are central to everything we do.

Frequently asked questions

  • What license do I need to apply?

An active state license in your discipline (PT, OT, SLP, LCSW, LPC, BCBA, etc.) in good standing. Therapy licensure is state-specific — the PT, OT, and ASLP-IC compacts let you practice in member states without a separate license.

  • Is this a school-year or year-round position?

School-based therapy roles typically follow a 9- or 10-month school-year calendar with summers off. Outpatient, hospital, home-health, and telehealth positions are year-round with PTO. Both options are widely available — check the job description for specifics.

  • What experience is expected?

Most therapy roles welcome new grads through mid-career clinicians. Specialty positions (acute care, NICU, pediatric feeding, hand therapy) typically prefer 2+ years plus relevant certifications.
