Frequently asked questions
How long is a typical travel therapy contract?
Most travel therapy contracts run 13 weeks, with the option to extend or take a new assignment after each contract. Shorter 8-week and longer 26-week contracts are also common, especially for SLPs in school settings.
Is housing provided or is there a stipend?
Most travel agencies offer a tax-free housing stipend rather than agency-arranged housing. Stipends vary by city and assignment, typically $1,200–$2,400 per month on top of weekly taxable pay.
Do I need a license in every state I travel to?
Yes — PT, OT, and SLP licensure is regulated state-by-state. The PT and OT compacts (PT Compact, OT Compact) let you practice in member states with a compact privilege; SLPs use the ASLP-IC compact. Non-compact states still require a state-specific license before you start.
