Job Description

New Directions Mental Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Child and Adolescent Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department, providing high-quality outpatient care to children, teens, and their families. As a clinician in our practice, you will deliver individual, family, and, when appropriate, group therapy to clients presenting with a range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, school-related stress, family conflict, and social or developmental challenges. Working within a practice dedicated to comprehensive mental health care, you will be responsible for conducting thorough biopsychosocial assessments, formulating accurate diagnoses using DSM-5 criteria, and developing personalized, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each client’s unique needs, strengths, and developmental stage. You will regularly monitor progress, adjust interventions as clinically indicated, and maintain a strong focus on safety, resilience, and skill-building for both clients and their families. In this role, you will use a range of therapeutic modalities commonly applied in child and adolescent work, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, play therapy techniques, family systems approaches, and trauma-informed practices. You will engage parents and caregivers as collaborative partners in treatment, providing them with psychoeducation, practical strategies, and ongoing support to help reinforce progress outside of sessions. When clinically appropriate, you will coordinate with schools, pediatricians, and other involved providers to support a cohesive, team-based approach to care. The culture at New Directions Mental Health is grounded in empathy, support, and collaboration. You will be joining a team of mental health professionals who value open communication, mutual respect, and shared learning. Within this environment, you will have opportunities for case consultation, clinical collaboration, and participation in regular team meetings designed to enhance client outcomes and professional growth. Documentation will be completed in a timely and accurate manner using our electronic medical record system, including progress notes, treatment plans, and any required reports. As a Child and Adolescent Therapist with New Directions Mental Health, you will also play an important role in crisis assessment and intervention, including evaluating suicide and self-harm risk, creating safety plans, and coordinating higher levels of care when needed. You will uphold all ethical and legal standards for working with minors, including informed consent and assent, confidentiality within appropriate limits, and mandated reporting requirements. New Directions Mental Health is dedicated to providing personalized treatment plans for children, adolescents, and adults, and you will contribute to this mission by bringing clinical expertise, curiosity, and compassion to every interaction. You will be supported by leadership that encourages professional development, including pursuing specialized trainings, certifications, and advanced clinical skills relevant to child and adolescent mental health. This position is ideal for a therapist who is passionate about working with young people, appreciates a team-oriented setting, and is motivated by the opportunity to positively impact clients and their families. As an employee, you will have the opportunity to engage in deeply rewarding work, see the tangible results of your therapeutic efforts, and grow within a supportive, collaborative clinical community. The role is structured as a full-time position with a stable, competitive salary and access to a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement options, typically with the flexibility for a combination of in-office and limited remote/telehealth work as appropriate. By joining New Directions Mental Health as a Child and Adolescent Therapist, you will help shape healthier futures for children and teens while advancing your own professional journey in a setting that values empathy, high-quality care, and teamwork.

  • What license do I need to apply?

An active state license in your discipline (PT, OT, SLP, LCSW, LPC, BCBA, etc.) in good standing. Therapy licensure is state-specific — the PT, OT, and ASLP-IC compacts let you practice in member states without a separate license.

  • Is this a school-year or year-round position?

School-based therapy roles typically follow a 9- or 10-month school-year calendar with summers off. Outpatient, hospital, home-health, and telehealth positions are year-round with PTO. Both options are widely available — check the job description for specifics.

  • What experience is expected?

Most therapy roles welcome new grads through mid-career clinicians. Specialty positions (acute care, NICU, pediatric feeding, hand therapy) typically prefer 2+ years plus relevant certifications.
