Job Description

Encompass Health Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a dedicated Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing evaluations and treatments to adult and geriatric patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that focus on measurable patient outcomes and high-quality care. The Speech Pathologist will conduct detailed assessments using standardized tools, interpret test results, and create goal-oriented treatment plans tailored to each patient’s functional needs and medical condition. Daily responsibilities include delivering one-on-one and group therapy, educating patients and families on communication and swallowing strategies, documenting all services in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner, and participating in team conferences and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care. You will be expected to maintain a strong focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, and ethical practice consistent with the mission and values of Encompass Health Cardinal Hill. This position offers a dynamic, collaborative environment where innovation and clinical best practices are encouraged. You will contribute to quality improvement initiatives, assist with program development for specialized populations such as neurological, stroke, brain injury, and medically complex patients, and stay current with professional standards through continuing education and participation in in-service trainings. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical reasoning, clear and compassionate communication, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, interdisciplinary rehabilitation hospital setting. If you are driven by integrity, compassion, and a passion for helping patients regain independence and quality of life, we invite you to bring your skills and expertise to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.

Frequently asked questions

  • What license do I need to apply?

An active state license in your discipline (PT, OT, SLP, LCSW, LPC, BCBA, etc.) in good standing. Therapy licensure is state-specific — the PT, OT, and ASLP-IC compacts let you practice in member states without a separate license.

  • Is this a school-year or year-round position?

School-based therapy roles typically follow a 9- or 10-month school-year calendar with summers off. Outpatient, hospital, home-health, and telehealth positions are year-round with PTO. Both options are widely available — check the job description for specifics.

  • What experience is expected?

Most therapy roles welcome new grads through mid-career clinicians. Specialty positions (acute care, NICU, pediatric feeding, hand therapy) typically prefer 2+ years plus relevant certifications.
